Welcome to Hill Country Birth!

Hill Country Birth (formerly Lovely Hearts Birth) was created to serve the Hill Country community and encompasses my life-long passion for community service and a dedication to continued learning. Offering childbirth education and doula services to pregnant women and yoga classes to people of all ages and abilities, including Integral Yoga®, prenatal yoga, and yoga for chronic pain and arthritis, Hill Country Birth strives to connect people from all walks of life in the Hill Country of Central Texas.

Pregnancy

Every birthing mother deserves the best care and support during and after pregnancy. We are here to help provide that support! Providing doula services, childbirth education for pregnant women and their partners, and prenatal yoga, we are here for the women of Hill Country.

This journey into the birth community started for me even before I had children, when I started to explore prenatal options as a yoga teacher in New York City. I finished my pregnancy-specific training in 2009, and have been working with pregnant women ever since. My doula work came next and seemed a natural progression in supporting pregnant women. Since moving to rural Central Texas, I realized there was a need for childbirth education locally that was evidence-based, holistic, and one that valued a woman’s innate ability to birth a child.

Yoga

We offer yoga classes for various populations throughout Hill Country, including regularly scheduled group classes at the Springs Family YMCA in Dripping Springs. We also offer private classes for one or more students in the comfort of your own home and group classes for corporate events and team-building gatherings.

WELCOME.

Whether you are looking to expand your yoga and meditation practice, a doula for your birth or want to learn more about labor and delivery (and what happens after!) so you can have an informed, confident, and conscious birth, Hill Country Birth is here for you.

Warmly,

Oona Mekas

  • I feel amazing. Not just proud of myself and emotionally good, but physically great too. Within hours of my baby’s birth I realized how different this recovery would be, and over the last month I have been amazed – my abs are intact and my core is strong, my pelvic floor is better than it has been in 3 years. I know that doesn’t really make sense after a vaginal delivery but it’s true! After my first baby I have had urinary incontinence anytime I jump/squat/jog etc and that is completely gone – I actually went jogging last week and had absolutely no problems. I can only credit this to yoga and many many hours spent on the exercise ball.

  • “Oona was an angel to the laboring woman (no family or support person), the nursing staff and to me that evening. She served as a very calm presence to an extremely needy and complicated woman who desired a natural birth. Oona’s presence truly changed the dynamic of this woman’s labor. No matter how rewarding a birth is for attendants, it can be draining physically and emotionally. Oona was steady, kind and patient. I was baffled she never stepped away for much deserved emotional breaks during the difficult and long labor. She never had an edge of impatience to her voice, nor wavered in “holding the space” for the mamma.”
