Midwife Oona Mekas began working with pregnant women as a doula, prenatal yoga teacher and birth educator in 2010. Women’s health equity, informed choice, and freedom to birth the way you want is her passion.

Oona has been blessed with incredible teachers along her path to fulfilling a lifelong dream to help women have babies. She began her midwifery journey learning from some of the original midwives at The Farm in Tennessee in 2019. In 2020, she began a four-year apprenticeship with esteemed midwife June Lamphier in Blanco, TX.

Oona became a licensed midwife in 2024. She is a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife), certified through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). Oona is dedicated to continuing education and lifelong learning. She is always gaining knowledge from her mentors, colleagues, and clients.

Oona has personal experience with home birth. Her daughter was born at home with midwives in 2014. It was an incredibly empowering and sacred experience. It strengthened her conviction that birth is a normal life event. She is honored and humbled each time she witnesses a woman give birth.

Oona is the Executive Director and founder of the Hill Country Women’s Health Collective, a non-profit, charitable clinic dedicated to accessible women’s healthcare and education for all women in the Hill Country of Central Texas.

She is proud to have been a volunteer doula for GALS (Giving Austin Labor Support), a non-profit organization that offers labor support to mothers in need in the Austin area.

In addition to midwifery, Oona is also an internationally recognized (certified E-RYT and RPYT) Integral Yoga® teacher. She has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and has been a certified teacher since 2006, serving students on both coasts and everywhere in between over the years .

Oona lives in the Hill Country of Central Texas with her wonderful husband and inspiring daughter, along with a gaggle of animals, including a lively border collie, a few cats, and a happy flock of free-range chickens. She loves baking, knitting, libraries, heist movies, saunas, and swimming in natural bodies of water.
